Social Gatherings:

The Coxswain is the perfect venue for all kinds of social events from birthdays to christenings, receptions to memorial gatherings . We offer exclusive use of the room on selected dates for afternoon and evening sessions for between 40 and 120 guests. Accompanied children are welcome.

The venue has its own sound system which is loud enough for dancing and refined enough for background music. We welcome DJs and various types of live entertainment. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring along your own music player or allow us to handle the tunes for you.

Laptops, DVD and VHS players can be plugged in to our system and will display on our two 42” screens. A microphone is available if required for speeches.

We offer a selection of delicious buffets to accompany your party and these may be customised to suit your taste.

The private bar will be open throughout your event and you may choose to pre-order wines and welcome drinks from our extensive list.

Session Times & Rates:

Our standard times are shown; if you require anything different, please don't hesitate to ask. Our rates include exclusive use of the venue, staffing the event and cleaning. The use of our audio visual equipment is provided free of charge.

Weekday Afternoon Session £100
40-120 guests. 2pm until 6pm with access from 1.30pm.

Sunday to Thursday Evening £190
40-120 guests. 7.30pm until 11pm with access from 7pm.

Friday and Saturday Evening £240
60-120 guests. 8pm until midnight with access from 7.30pm.

Monday to Thursday Full Day £250
40-120 guests. 2pm until 11pm with access from 1.30pm.

Friday Full Day £300
60-120 guests. 2pm until midnight with access from 1.30pm.

Saturday Full Day (seasonal availability) £380
60-120 guests. 1pm until midnight with access from Noon.

Lunchtime buffets, where ordered, are usually served upon arrival.
Evening Buffets, where ordered, are usually served at 8:30pm.

Depending on our other commitments, your guests will be very welcome to stay on after your afternoon event and share the facilities in The Coxswain or The White Hart. At the end of the evening all guests will have the usual 30 minutes after the bar closes to bid their farewells.

We can provide various delicious buffet options for your guests. There are two main buffets that you may add to from Wordsworth’s Extras at a small additional cost. Please allow at least eight days notice when ordering food.

If you decide not to provide a buffet, your guests will be very welcome to order from our main pub menu.

All dishes may contain lactose, gluten, traces of nuts or nut derivatives. Fish dishes may contain bones.
Buffet items are subject to availability. Where an item becomes unavailable, a similar item of equivalent value will be substituted. With the exception of celebration cakes, only food and drinks provided by us may be consumed on the premises. Standard booking conditions apply.

Entertainers:
Having a DJ at your party could not be easier as they will plug straight in to our system. They will not need to bring their amplifier or speakers, only their music source, a mixer and a small amount of compact disco lighting if desired.

Being within an historic building, the room does not have much in the way of sound-proofing, for this reason we are unable to accommodate really loud bands. Pianists, dinner jazz groups, harpists and most acoustic acts should have no problems playing. Please let us know what you are planning and we will be happy to advise.

Decorating The Coxswain:
During the festive season we will have a beautiful tree and tasteful Christmas decorations. You are welcome to bring flowers and balloons all year although please read our standard booking conditions for further advice.
